Often abbreviated to Eid (which means festival), Id al-Adha is one of two major Muslim holidays. It marks the end of the Hajj, the pilgrimage at Mecca which all Muslims who can afford to do so are obliged to perform once in their life time. The Festival commemorates Abraham‘s willingness to sacrifice his son, and signifies that Muslims too are prepared to surrender for God that which they most value, the holy month of fasting.
